These buildings were photographed in 1995, by Liz.
Many thanks to Emily and Tom for the identification of them.

The photos above show the old Missionary Baptist Church in Dozaville, on Kaskaskia Island.
In the early 1900's, it had a fairly large congregation.   Most of the records are lost and
unknown, as the preachers would take them with them as they left for another location.

The pictures taken in 1995 by Liz are of the Baptist Church in Dozaville also know as Pujol. The building has been a Baptist Church as long as most people can recall.

The unidentified house is just about 2 miles north of Pujol and is along the road and was very close to the levee since it was upgraded in 1985 or thereabouts. This house originally belonged to Pearl and Edith Lawrence. It was originally built over on Coon's Island and when the levee was built around 1940 it was moved to the location shown in the picture. After the levee was improved in 1985 the road was moved so as to be really close to the foundation. You can see the blacktop road in the picture you have.

After the Lawrence's lived there Alberta (daughter of Pearl and Edith Lawrence) and Billie Joe Lankford lived there and it was sold to Hubert and Ella LaRose after the 1973 flood. They kept it until the 1993 flood and I understand that they sold it to the US Government in a buy out program. I do not think there is anything there at this time.

The Lawrences and the LaRose's are deceased.
This information was given to me by my mother who lived on the Island most of her life.
