Flood of 1993

Fort de Chartres was underwater for nearly a month during the flood of 1993.  With the help and hard work of many volunteers and the staff, the site has been refurbished.

The line in the upper left corner of the photo is actually the road on the levee south of the fort.  Near the center you can see the break in the levee. Water levels reached as high as 15' inside the fort.

In the lower center of the picture, in the east bastion, you can see only the top of the powder magazine. The lines with the "arrow" points are the front walls of the fort.
