If you would like to learn more about the Kaskaskia Indians and other tribes of the Illiniwec Confederation, visit THIS site. if you mention Acadians, few people have any idea what you're talking about. If you say Cajuns, there's no confusion. But even fewer people know that only a small number of exiled Acadians reached Louisiana where they then integrated into the community and established that unique band of people known as the Cajuns.
While the majority of the exiles that came to America settled in Louisiana, it is now being shown that some stopped at/migrated to, Kaskaskia. In later years, the descendants of those exiles came to Kaskaskia, where they continued their peaceful existence and customs.
Less is known of the Acadians who settled along the East Coast or "the Islands." And, of course, the great number who made the trek back north and returned to Canada is a story hardly heard at all.

Monroe County Genealogical Society
Monroe County is connected to Randolph on the
northern border.  Many of the Monroe residents worked
or lived in Randolph for periods of time.
It was also a 'stopping point' on their journey to
Cahokia and St. Louis, as the Kaskaskia Trace
went through it.
